Contributing about software keyboard, need some help

Yevgeny Hong

Hi, all.

I am writing to ask some questions and advice from AGL members about the contribution process.
There was an implementation of the software keyboard in our recent project.
We hope that the results will contribute to the AGL project.

You can refer to the following links for keyboard implementations:
https://www.notion.so/drimaes/AGL-Software-keyboard-9d3a34c2855b42608d34123d1c08b8ce

The project is based on agl 8.0, but we expect it to be applicable to the latest version of agl to make a contribution.
So I'm trying to do agl 10.0 right now, but it's not going well with rpi and qemu, so I'm having a hard time here.
Is it okay to contribute to the work based on the 8 or 9 version, and then modify it to work in the 10 version?

Another question is that when I request the creation of a repository, I think it would be okay to create a repository for the source code.
But we have to make a meta-layer for patching chromium, and is it right to ask for a repository for meta-layer or push the meta-layer in meta-agl-devel?

Regards,
Yevgeny Hong

Why not add a JIRA task/bug, or ask here about those problems?

If already have a version for halibut (8) it makes much more sense to
work on latest version and (current) master. IDK if we're generating
images for those versions anymore. Who is your target audience? Do you
expect them to use a version so old? Who is going to review your code?

Another question is that when I request the creation of a repository, I think it would be okay to create a repository for the source code.
Add a JIRA task for it, with the name of the repo, and assign it to jsmoeller.

AFAIK, be aware that chromium will receive an update to version 79 so if
patching chromium might want to target that. IDK about yocto layers so
probably JSM will comment on this matter.

Hi, Marius.

Thank you for your kind answer to the question.

As you mentioned, I think it is right to proceed with the latest version.

Regarding the chromium version upgrade schedule, we will refer to it before proceeding.

Have a good day, then.

If you plan to create a layer for you work, use a subfolder and template in meta-agl-devel.

Best,
Jan-Simon

And if you need a git repo, use the jira procedure as described on wiki.automotivelinux.org under contributing.

best,
Jan-Simon
